Springhill C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Springhill canter to victory

The Nomads lost out to a dominant Springhill in an eventful match.
This was an historic day as the Nomads put out two teams for the first time. Captain Rolfe travelled to Ashby de la Zouch and Vice Captain Barker took the reins at Springhill.
Springhill batted first and the late arrival of Dave Pickering meant that Ian Hughes carried out the substitute fielder duties for the first half an hour.
There were early wickets for Sam Bryars including a spectacular 'Superman' one handed diving catch by Hutton at slip. Springhill progressed at a good rate thanks to Gurpreet (65), Jabbar (45) and No. 7 Zain (84 Not Out). Mahmood picked up two wickets, with one each for Cartwright and Hutton.
The total of 221 for 6 seemed a tall order early on in the season and so it proved.
Fearon and Barker opened for the Nomads and the former was soon out caught for just 6. Hutton came in at three and the pair provided the only meaningful partnership taking the score to 72 at a good rate, when Barker (26) was bowled. Hutton was caught for 33. Only Bryars and Scurock reached double figures from the rest of the batting. Pickering and Cartwright survived at the end, to at least save the Nomads from being bowled out.
The final total of 140 for 9 was disappointing.
Springhill ran out comfortable winners by 81 runs.
