Nomads up and running with a win

After being let down late on by Risley, heroic efforts by Dan Moss obtained a T20 game against Buxton. The match was played to give everyone some practice and numerous batters retired after a few overs. Six bowlers got some useful practice and John Loxley looked good as an addition to the bowling line-up.
The top order batters all made some runs, however the middle order batsmen were surprised by the introduction of a first team bowler who claimed 3 wickets in one over. However the lower order saw us over the finishing line and batted out the 20 overs.
Many thanks to Buxton and Dan Moss who got us some cricket on a lovely Spring day. Dan probably has the the distinction of being the only opposition player to win Nomads MVP

Buxton – a tale of 12 good men and true

Waking up on match day to bright sunshine is guaranteed to gladden the heart. Finding that the much anticipated game has been cancelled at very short notice has the equal and opposite effect. But cometh the hour, cometh the man. In this case it was the peripatetic Dan Moss (Edinburgh to Buxton via Skegness), or Superdan as he may well be called in the future. A series of calls and messages generated the offer of a 20:20 game in Buxton. Reinforcements were called up. Others were woken up. Offer accepted.
All of the efforts paid off. So well, in fact, that it became a 12 a side game. In the spirit of the most friendly of friendlies, batters (more of which later) were retired regularly to ensure that everyone took part. Buxton batted first. Their innings was opened by some chap called Dan Moss (showed potential). They included three ladies (hence the reference to batters) and some juniors. A new call (to this writer at least) was heard of “No, Mum”.
Buxton reached 88 from their 20 overs. Regular rotation of the batsmen had a slightly adverse effect on momentum in the Nomads innings. A batting collapse did not help either. Facing extremely slow bowling is also a challenge. The total was reached with a couple of overs to spare. The innings continued to ensure that even the Nomads Number 12 was able to stride to the wicket. Promotion awaits: could be as high as 11 next time.
