Nomads travelled to Longdon’s new ground with only a couple of replacements to last week’s team. We were expecting a tough match based on Longdon's results of last season aided to a large extent by Kamal who was playing against us. Nomads were put in and after 3 wides from Cal, Rana Ghosal was surprised by one on the wicket and was bowled putting in an early claim for the Gonads Trophy. Pete Gardner was next to go, unlucky to be out to a one- handed over-the-head return catch to the bowler. The welcome return of Adam Hughes saw him starting slowly but with his partner Dan Moss, who looked in fine form, the score rose steadily with the help of extras. Moss looked set for, at least, a 50 but was given out lbw, always a contentious decision. Kamal struck as a bowler removing John Loxley and Tom Scurlock cheaply. Aneek Mahmood calmed his approach from the previous week but was out for just 10. Adam Hughes was now scoring briskly and with the help of Dave Rolfe pushed the score along to 195 before being out for 9. Ian Hughes and Dave Rolfe then attained a total of 200.
A 200 total looked reasonable but based on previous scores by Longdon by no means insurmountable.
Aneek Mahmood and Ian Hughes opened the bowling for Nomads, with Mahmood claiming an early wicket. However this saw star man Kamal come into bat. He looked classy but he was dropped fairly early on, a miss Nomads were to regret. He and the opener Mills gave very few chances and took the score well towards the winning total despite the efforts of the bowlers. Eventually the introduction of Dan Moss and the return of Mahmood saw the 2 big wickets taken, However the remaining batting was sufficient to attain the winning total with 5 overs and 7 wickets to spare.
Whilst not a one man side , Kamal contributes a lot to Longdon and his early removal would have given us a much better chance of victory.
