Harborne C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads finally play Harborne

After a number of false starts over previous seasons, Nomads finally got to play Harborne. Unfortunately we had to play them on their 3rd pitch which is just up the road from Edgbaston Croquet Club.Nomads batted first with the now regular partnership of Pete Gardner and Rana Ghosal. They made a good start with 45 off 11 overs but Ghosal played and missed outside off stump and not learning from yjis played the same shot and was caught by the keeper. This saw the welcome return of Marcus Hutton after a year in the League. Gardner was then bowled and Aneek Mahmood entered the fray. As was anticipated these 2 accelerated the scoring particularly against the young spinner Miller. However the introduction of Lyttle saw him rip through the middle order taking 4 wickets. However new player Julian Ellis showed his credentials by scoring an unbeaten 41 aided by Dave Rolfe.
A few years ago a score of over 200 would have been quite impressive but these days well over 200 is required to have any confidence of winning.
Mahmood opened the bowling and was again impressive. Unfortunately Hutton was not quite his usual self, having trouble with his run-up.and was expensive for him.The first 4 batters were well ahead of the run-rate even when Meredith retired on 52.The later bowlers could not slow things down and Harborne attained the total with 5 overs to spare.
Although this was another loss but it was a better performance than the previous day. Again though we were let down by a number of missed chance which , if taken, would have made the game closer.
