Kenilworth C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads Battered at Kenilworth

Yet another default by the opposition, who did provide alternative opponents, saw Nomads visit Kenilworth for the first time. A number of players turned up late and earned well-deserved reprimands from the Chairman and Captain. Dan Lee and Ian Hughes opened the bowling and both provided tidy spells. Lee, as usual, was very economical and also claimed 2 wickets. Aneek Mahmood replaced Hughes. This season Mahmood has been struggling with his length and bowled some short and also some full tosses meaning he was rather expensive. Luke Turnbull replaced Lee and, with the batsmen starting to attack the bowling, the total started to rapidly rise. However, at 150 off 32 overs a total of around 200 was looking plausible which would, hopefully, have given Nomads some chances.
However this over also saw the start of the innings of Vyas, apparently a hit-out or get-out merchant. He proceeded to batter the bowling of Jim Cogzell, who had sustained a thumb injury in the field, and John Hoddy. A staggering 103 came off the last 8 overs due to an innings of 87, including 4 sixes.

Nomads returned to the field shell-shocked and only Mahmood gave a good account of himself with a sensible innings of 52 with no other batsman getting into double figures. It was , I thought, ironic that some of the opposition said good game after the match. Hopefully if Vyas had not been sent in then Nomads would have given a better account of themselves.
