Risley C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads make it two in a row at Risley

Lichfield Nomads beat Risley by 5 wickets. Rana Ghosal top scored with 88.
Risley batted first and posted a daunting 232 for 5. Nomads responded with a century opening stand and a thrilling run chase to secure a second win on the bounce.

Yet another re-arranged fixture saw us travel to Risley. Nomads put Risley in and although the batsmen played and missed at the openers Tom Davies and Dan Lee , they also had enough opportunities to score boundaries and keep the score progressing at a brisk pace. Davies had one lbw appeal turned down but a few balls later another was given. Aneek Mahmood replaced Davies and troubled the batsmen with his pace and deservedly took a wicket Hoddy replaced Lee and on his second ball the batsman swept him but fortunately the fielder , Moss, took a good catch at deep mid wicket. Hoddy took another wicket but the two batsmen in rode their luck, with some sliced shots evading the field and had sufficient experience to keep the score moving at a brisk pace taking an especial liking to the bowling of Dan Moss. Daz Cartwright had a brief spell at the end and Risley achieved a good looking total of 232-5.
The 2 Risley batsmen who scored 80+, whilst not looking elegant, were effective with several boundaries and good running between the wickets despite their size and age. Nomads were probably a bit lacklustre in the field.
The total looked imposing but the openers Rana Ghosal and Pete Gardner made a big inroad into the total, with Ghosal , in particular, playing some excellent shots. Gardner was out stumped and Rich Bastable came in. He never really got going and was soon out for 9. In the meantime Ghosal had reached a splendid 88, his PB, before being caught. There was some 70 runs to get off 10 overs at this stage but Aneek Mahmood brought the target down with an innings consisting of 6 fours. Jas Basi was out first ball but the captain Dave Rolfe came in and with the aid of Dan Moss saw Nomads over the finishing line.
Nomads completed a perfect run chase with a good solid start, a burst of acceleration at the right time and the job completed with 2 overs to spare. Another enjoyable match at Risley.
