Nomads made the long journey to Park Road, Buxton on a glorious summer afternoon. A hybrid match saw 12-a-side, but with only 11 fielders at a time complete with rolling substitutions.
Winning the toss, Dave Rolfe elected to bat but the loss of Rana Ghosal in the first over was an immediate setback. Too often wickets fell to poor shots, though Pete Gardner and the skipper had decent knocks. The fact that extras top scored probably speaks volumes, and ultimately the Nomads were all out off the final ball for 157.
Buxton opener Whitehouse took an early liking to Ian Hughes’ bowling before retiring, as did number three Slater (retiring that is!). The Nomads kept plugging away though, led by a fine spell from John Hoddy who was rewarded with 2-17. Ultimately, upon the fall of the ninth wicket, Whitehouse returned to lead our hosts to a relatively narrow win.
It’s always a pleasure to play at Park Road, hopefully next time we’ll perform better with the bat.
