Lichfield Nomads C.C. v Old Moseley C.C.

Sizzling Nomads beat Old Moseley for the first time

On a blazing hot Walsall afternoon, much to the relief of his team Dave Rolfe won the toss and elected to bat.
As had happened the previous week Rana Ghosal was out in the first over. Unlike seven days earlier, this didn’t seem to affect the Nomads as Dan Brannigan came in all guns blazing. A second wicket partnership with Dan Moss amassed 94, before Dan Bran fell just short of a well deserved fifty.
Mossy then proceeded to accelerate with several lovely cuts behind square before falling for 72.
At 162-4 in the 29th over Marcus Hutton joined Jon Loxley, and what ensued can only be described as mayhem. Together they put on an unbroken 123 in just 43 minutes to take the Nomads to a huge 285-4, as well as smashing the 27 year old club record for a fifth wicket partnership.

Old Moseley’s reply was disrupted early on as Aneek Mahmood’s snorter to Mo Azam was superbly taken behind by Rolfy. Wickets fell at regular intervals meaning that at 20 overs, while only two runs behind the comparative score, they’d lost two more wickets.
After his unbeaten 50, Hutts took three vital wickets, including opener Adrian Martin who hit a well put together 50. Jimmy Cogzell then came on and started mopping up the tail to leave Old Moseley 188-9. A belligerent 43 by Shariff Nawaz took them to 225-9 at close, leaving Nomads deserved winners by 60 runs.
This was a really good team performance in testing conditions, and praise must be given to the skipper who took three catches behind the stumps and kept excellently. There were several candidates for MVP which ultimately saw Marc Hutton win the vote.
With a slightly delayed start, drinks breaks every 10 overs and an extended tea interval, the game finished just ten minutes before sunset. Maybe time to look at starting a little earlier perhaps?
