Chatsworth C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

A Stately Defeat

The 2nd game of our Peak District Tour saw us at Chatsworth House. After clearing the ground of rabbit and deer poo, the game was commenced with Nomads batting. Ghosal and Gardner struggled with tight bowling and a large outfield which saw few boundaries scored. The openers accelerated and reached a respectable 80 off 22 overs before Ghosal was run out. Gardner was stumped in the next over. Marcus Hutton tried to push the scoring along but was soon bowled attempting a sweep. Stanley was also run out which saw Mahmood come in, a big innings was required and things were going well until one shot too many saw him caught in the deep. Bastable, Loxley and Cogzell chipped in but the innings subsided to 149-8 with Pickering and Cartwright seeing out the overs.
Nomads had a slow start and also got bogged down later in the innings and the score was never likely to be enough.
Nomads had found it difficult to score quickly on a large, slow outfield but perhaps it had speeded up as Chatsworth had no trouble proceeding at a brisk rate. Cogzell was unlucky to have a catch dropped and Cartwright claimed a wicket, but none of the bowlers really troubled the batsmen and Chatsworth ran out comfortable winners after 28 overs.

The two matches were quite a contrast with a 9 wicket victory and a 9 wicket loss, however everyone who took part enjoyed it and perhaps we will do a Peak tour again.
