Woore C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Woore, huh, yeah: what is it good for?

The annual trip north to the lovely village of Woore wasn’t one most of us will remember fondly.

Our opponents won the toss and chose to bat first. Opener Matt Kenvyn put much of our bowling to the sword before retiring unbeaten on 102. He was ably assisted by Usman Yaqub who ended up one short of a deserved ton. Poor fielding at times didn’t help the cause, although occasional bowler Jon Loxley did a good job towards the end. The enormous score was always likely to prove problematic.

Sadly our reply didn’t start well and we found ourselves 32-4 after 9 overs. However this brought together Marcus Hutton and Jon Loxley who proceeded to put on over 100 in good time. Indeed, just briefly it looked like we may be able to get close to the collossal target, but both fell soon after reaching their half centuries, and with that the game was effectively over.

Ian Hughes and Dave Rolfe put on a spirited 9th wicket partnership of 38, but by the inevitable end we were all out 72 runs short of Woore’s innings with just one over left. Jon Loxley was voted MVP for his fine all round performance: we licked our wounds and left determined to make up for our shortcomings next season.
