Hilton C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads win Seesaw Game at Hilton

Nomads turned up at Hilton on a cool, windy day. Capt. Rolfe was resting his finger and so vice Mahmood took over his duties. Nomads batted and opened with Ghosal and Gardner. Nomads started steadily against some tight bowling and lost the 1st wicket early on with Ghosal departing for 2, but this brought in Mahmood who started to dispatch the first change bowlers to all parts and 60 runs were added in 7 overs before Gardner was caught by the keeper. Hutton, following the lead of Mahmood, scored heavily and a further 61 runs were added before Mahmood departed in the 23rd over. Hilton were ringing the changes eventually using 9 bowlers, and the 2 batsmen, Hutton and Turnbull, capitilised. With overs running out both batsmen were looking to achieve personal targets; Hutton a century and Turnbull a half century. Unfortunately both fell just short.
A score of 266 looked formidable and Nomads were looking to return to winning ways.
The Hilton openers started quickly against Mahmood and Lee.With 9 bowlers to choose from Mahmood started to ring the changes, replacing Lee by Cogzell and then himself by Hughes. However it was only when Hutton replaced Cogzell that wickets began to fall. Hutton bowled Lloyd just short of his century and then 4 wickets fell for just 13 runs, Rashid claiming 2 and Fearon and Hutton one each, and Nomads looked well on top. However Harrison and Jones had other thoughts and had a go at everything, being particularly hard on Hoddy who went for 25 in 2 overs. The pair were keeping up with the required run-rate of 10 per over and so Mahmood and Hutton came back on to steady the ship and after Harrison and Jones were claimed, the match was over with nomads winning by 23 runs.
Another win so Nomads with their best ever start to the season with 5 wins out of 7 matches played. A break next week when the postponed 40th Anniversary Match is due to take place.
