Hampton in Arden C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads crash to defeat at Hampton

Following the fun of the Anniversary Match last week, Nomads came back to reality at Hampton in Arden. Having only played them once, before Covid, we did not know what to expect although their recent results had looked good. Hampton batted first and faced some excellent bowling from Mahmood and Lee, with Mahmood getting two early wickets. Lee was unlucky to see Tom M dropped off his bowling which was to prove costly as he went on to score 90 before Ghosal took an excellent catch in the deep from a steepling ball. Nomads were reining in the scoring and taking wickets and kept Hampton down to 153-5 in the 30th over. However when 8 and 9 , Harry L and Harry G , came in, it was obvious Hampton had held some batting back and the two proceeded to advance at 8 per over to give Hampton a more than respectable 233-9.
Ghosal and Gardner opened and a mis-understanding saw Ghosal run out for 2 and later Gardner decided to run himself out to even things up. Mahmood, Barker and Loxley were all caught by the keeper trying to hit out and despite a partnership of 47 between Hutton and Bastable, the Nomads innings was struggling to reach the century figure. At this point the Hampton captain brought his team together to chastise them for some over enthusiastic behaviour in the field. The innings ended quickly with Pickering, Lee and Hoddy all falling cheaply.
After a successful opening to the season, Nomads came back down to earth against a very good Hampton side.
