Buxton C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads Battle through the Sun and the Showers

After torrential downpours on Saturday, an early pitch inspection confirmed that a game could go ahead. Nomads arrived with 12 players, Dave Rolfe keeping wicket but not batting. Nomads batted first, by mutual agreement, and Pete Gardner opened with yet another new partner, Sam Bryars. This combo was close to setting two records for Nomads opening partners, ie largest age difference and largest height difference. The two started off in lively fashion keeping pace with each other until Bryars, forgetting the age of his partne,r called for a quick single which Gardner was unable to achieve and Gardner was run out for 31, completing a partnership of 93. John Loxley came in and saw Bryars achieve his maiden Nomads 50 before Bryars was dismissed by an excellent catch. Aneek Mahmood came in to attack the bowling in his usual manner and was joined by Rich Bastable after Loxley was bowled on 15. Bastable scratched along somewhat but Mahmood made up for this with an innings that contained 3 sixes, but was stumped on 62. Luke Turnbull and Jim Cogzell ended the innings with a rapid 47 in 6 overs.

Nomads enjoyed the teas they had brought with them in a confident mood having a side that included 9 bowlers.
Mahmood and Dan Lee opened in their usual fashion creating havoc amongst the batsmen. Lee bowled as usual and for once was rewarded with wickets and Mahmood continued his fine bowling form. The two of them claimed 5 wickets between them. The game was all but over by then and Capt Dave Rolfe changed the bowlers to give evryone a game. Ian Hughes claimed 2 wickets for very few runs. The duo of Oddie and Alan were batting well until Tony Jordan dismissed Oddie. Bryars then polished off the 10 and Jack to get Buxton all out for 92.Whilst Sam Bryars was Nomads MVP, Buxton’s MVP should go to their youngest player Alan who opened the bowling with 14 runs off 5 overs and ended up with 27 no when batting.

Nomads now have very good batting and bowling units and should give most teams we play a good game.
