Old Moseley Fitmen C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads Struggle to Keep up with Fitmen

Nomads went to the historic ground at Moseley, home of Moeen Ali, desperately trying to circumnavigate the numerous road closures. The team saw the return of ‘Daz’ Cartright and Jas Basi. Nomads elected to bat and reverted to the partnership of Pete Gardner and Rana Ghosal, apparently playing his last match for Nomads before crossing the Big Pond. Some tight opening bowling from Caines and Ralph, who was particularly pacy, saw a slow start. Ghosal was bowled by Ralph to bring in Mahmood, who had been told to bat circumspectly as the batting was a bit fragile. To this end he only hit 2 sixes. It needed the return of Ralph bowling in gloomy conditions to get him out.Fearon was unlucky to get a gonad being caught in the deep by a splendid over the shoulder catch. Bastable scored a creditible 21. Basi unfortunately had to face Ralph and was clean bowled first ball.Rolfe was unlucky to be caught by an excellent low catcg at square leg off a well struck shot. Then Cartwright and Hoddy added 19 for the last wicket.
A reasonable score but unlikely to be enough against a strong Moseley side.
Lee and Mahmood opened, Lee bowling his usual tight spell and also claiming 2 wickets, but Mahmood had a bad back and was struggling with line and length. The openers were cruising along at around 7 per over, and Davies was relatively inexpensive going at just 5 per over. Hoddy bowled a bit better this week and was unlucky to see chances not taken but lost it in his last over going for 18, thus ensuring Cartwright and Fearon would only have one over each. Ghosal was given a guard of honour off the pitch and then bought the drinks. He will be sorely missed but his team-mates wish him all the best in sunny LA.
Nomads were convincingly beaten by Fitmen although we did not have our strongest side out.
