Draycott and Hanbury C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Madhu defeats Nomads

On a hot day, Nomads travelled over to Hanbury for once without the services of Pete Gardner, on a cultural tour of Pisa and not getting pissed, I’m sure. Nomads batted, opening with Sayles and Fearon who gave his wicket away early on, mistiming a drive for a duck. Similarly Mahmood perhaps hit out too early and was also caught. After Sayles was bowled Hutton and Brannigan steadied the ship with a partnership of 80. Things were never easy against good bowling and wickets had fallen steadily. Bastable and Bais fell cheaply whilst Turnbull contributed 17 Some lusty hitting by Rolfe saw the score advance to 191.
In former days this would have been a decent score but in these modern times score of 200+ are necessary.
Mahmood and Lee bowled well as usual and batsmen 2 and 3 both went without scoring , however Madhu was scoring all the runs achieving his 50 at a team total of 58. He went on to make 100 and then retired leaving batsmen 6 and 7 to complete the victory riding their luck through a few missed chances.
However the post match analysis was aided with a few beers to celebrate John Hoddy’s upcoming 71st birthday.
If Madhu had been claimed early on, a few more chances had been taken, the match would have been a lot more interesting.
