Allestree C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Record Breaking Nomads

On the warmest day of the year so far for cricket, Nomads took on Allestree, thanks to Luke Turnbull, after our opponents at Ashby cried off. Capt. Loxley won the toss and elected to bat opening with himself and Pete Gardner. With short boundaries and a fast outfield the scoring was brisk. However Loxley succumbed to a good slip catch when on 14, bringing Bastable in. Gardner was run out just before the Nomads 100 came up. On being interviewed he stated, “I never thought he’d hit from there”.
Then Aneek Mahmood came in and although he was apparently out of touch with the bat he rattled up a quick 62, out to a ball which may have bounced twice and thus been a no-ball. Then Bastable was out to a ball which was close to being above waist height, however he had achieved his Nomad’s pb of 61.Then Turnbull, batting against his League team-mates, showed no mercy dispatching the bowlers for a rapid top-scoring 72 at around 200 strike rate. Cogzell contributed 24 and scored the runs that saw Nomads reach their all-time highest score.

The Nomads score looked daunting even with short boundaries and some of the 1st team squad representing Allestree.
Mahmood, opening for Nomads, got a wicket in his 1st over and with Cogzell also bowling really well Allestree were soon in serious trouble. After 2 wickets each the openers were replaced by Cartwright and Gibson who kept up the pressure. Cartwright, although the only bowler not claiming a wicket, bowled his 5 overs for a miserly 7 runs. Although Smith provided some resistance , along with Dennem and part-time Nomad Sales, there was never any doubt about the result with Fearon, Singh and Turnbull finishing things off.

A record breaking score for Nomads and a pb for Bastable concluded an excellent performance by Nomads.
