Audlem C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads Notch up Another Victory

After a trouble free build-up to the match, Nomads arrived at Audlem on a hot, sunny day. Audlem elected to bat after winning the toss and started briskly riding their luck with a few aerial shots. Mahmood claimed the 1st wicket courtesy of a good catch by Bastable. At the other end Taran Singh was keeping the batters occupied with his variations. Mo Thakur replaced Mahmood and was the pick of the bowlers claiming 3 cheap wickets. Audlem had been progressing at 6 to 7 per over, but with the loss of 5 wickets, the 2 Audlem batsmen steadied things down and Fearon . Hoddy and Mizra bowled economically and the innings ended at 209-5.
Although a good total. Nomads were confident that with short boundaries and a quick outfield the total could be reached.
Old stagers Gardner and Fearon opened the batting and made a steady start before Gardner lost patience swinging and missing to be bowled. Fearon was then out lbw, and Weir was out without scoring to a ball which was close to being a full toss above waist height. Bastable continued his good form before being bowled on 21. This saw Mahmood and Thakur really going for the runs at high speed. Mahmood reached 50 and retired as required by match conditions and it looked as if Thakur would do the same until he was caught by an unbelievable diving catch on the boundary on 43. Mizra and Loxley kept moving the score along but when Mizra and then quickly Ellis was out without scoring some doubts crept in but Loxley and Singh saw us safely over the line.
An exciting match played in a good spirit as personified by the Audlem batter who gave himself out when the umpire was unsure about a run out.
