Nomads Return to Winning Ways
Nomads travelled over to Rushall to take on the “Elf”.
Having years of experience between them, it was surprising to see Stanley run out going for a second whilst partnering Gardner. Scurlock came in and dealt only in fours amassing 4 of them before being bowled. Mizra did not trouble the scorers, succumbing to a one-handed catch by Preece and then Parsonage and Ellis did not last long. Loxley and Gibson steadied things down waiting to take advantage of the bad balls. Loxley was caught when going well and Singh scored a rapid 18 including a magnificent 6. Fearon, coming in low in the order stayed with Gibson as did Hoddy, with Gibson eventually walking when hitting a bottom edge to the keeper attempting to eke out a few more runs in the final overs.
There were a few good starts to innings but no one really got going. One or two 50+ scores would have been very welcome. However on this pitch the total was definitely competitive.
The experiment of opening with Hoddy did not really work as he struggled to find any rhythm and Singh troubled the batsmen but did not break through, however Gibson came on and used plenty of variety to smash through the openers, a particularly good catch by Singh being crucial. Fearon replaced Singh and bowled tightly to add 2 more wickets to his stats. Hoddy returned at the other end and bowled better to claim 2 more victims and Loxley, relieved of keeping duties, bowled really well after not having bowled this season to complete the victory.
An enjoyable win against our long-standing rivals. Nomads hung in when things looked to be slipping away, reducing the opposition from 66-0 and cruising to 98 all out. Gibson, deservedly won MVP with 3 wickets, 26 runs and a good catch.
