Buxton C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads Win by 2 or17?

Nomads travelled to Buxton to play on their 2nd pitch for the first time. A scenic albeit small ground. Ian Hughes was standing in as captain for the 3rd time this season having previously managed 2 wins. Buxton elected to field first and Nomads entered the fray with Gardner and Stanley. Stanley over-estimated his pace and called for a single in the 2nd over being run out without facing a ball. Mahmood came in and cracked a couple of sixes, one smashing into the roof of the changing rooms, before succumbing for 32. However Thakur made up for this attacking the bowling whilst Gardner remained steadfast at the other end. However the bowlers started to put a brake on the run scoring and Gardner was caught just after reaching his 50.Thakur survived an appeal for a catch as no-one seemed quite sure what had happened but was then run out just short of his 50. Parsonage scored a quick 8, but Cogzell struggled to make 5. The remaining batsmen only managed to make another 20 odd runs as the score settled on 190.
On this pitch 190 seemed a little short of par but with a strong bowling line-up, Nomads were still confident of victory.
Ian Hughes opened along with Cartwright but the 2 opening batsmen started well giving few chances. At 80 for no wicket off 21 overs a good base had been set to accelerate to the target. However Hoddy and Lee had replaced the 2 openers and eventually made a break through with 3 wickets falling in 3 overs. Gibson came on and continued his good form ripping through the heart of the Buxton batting to achieve his 1st 5-for for Nomads, although he had achieved many others in his cricketing career. Cogzell bowled a tight 6 overs but it was left to Hoddy to come back to claim the last 2 wicket, although the last wicket may have been taken in the 42nd over due to some erratic scorebook work by Buxton.
Again Nomads kept plugging away when things seemed to be going against them. Looking at the scorebook after the match it seemed that 41 and a half overs were bowled. Buxton scoring 177 off 40 overs and ending on 188.
