Harborne C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

Nomads suffer at Harborne

Nomads travelled to play on the main Harborne pitch on a cool, damp day. I Hughes was once again standing in for captain Loxley, unavailable due to domestic duties. Nomads batted first against a mainly youthful team. However the opening bowlers were certainly quick and Stanley found them too hostile being bowled for 0. Bastable replaced him but was disappointed to be bowled on 24. Gardner was playing anchor-man but runs were accumulating at the other end from Mirza including one 6 and netting 30 runs before being caught. Kareem accelerated the scoring, hitting 6 sixes before retiring on 100 Gardner had been run out earlier, when in a lapse of concentration had not returned to his crease after playing the ball. Thakur was also run out after a brisk 28. The last few balls were then seen out by Rolfe, making his come-back as replacement wicket-keeper, and Singh.
Nomads were optimistic having achieved a competitive score of 247.
However illusions were soon shattered when Harborne started off at 10 per over.against I Hughes and Singh. They were pegged back slightly especially against Thakur and Jordan but really very few chances were given, no catches offered and the only wicket was taken by Thakur with a rising ball that the batsman played onto his stumps; the target being reached after 30 overs.
In the end although Nomads reached a good total, the bowling was not good enough against this team to give a chance of victory.
