Lichfield Nomads C.C. v Walsall Unity C.C.

Another Hard Day at the Office for Nomads

Nomads turned up at Walsall to play Walsall Unity. A team new to us but some research had shown that they scored a lot of runs at a fast rate. This was proved true when Unity started to bat going at 10 runs per over, shades of Harborne the previous week. Forewarned we had agreed on retirement at 50, but unfortunately Unity did not seem to have a tail. In the end 3 of their batsmen retired on 50 and others made significant contributions. On the plus side 6 of our bowlers took a wicket. However a final total of 310 looked formidable.
A late injury withdrawal by Aneek did not help our cause but it probably would not have made a significant difference.
Nomads got off to a decent start with Loxley and Fearon opening; Gardner holidaying in Venice. But when both were caught , the batting folded with only guest player Zaimal and Singh reaching double figures. A 9th wicket stand of 35 between Singh and Hoddy saw Nomads bring the losing margin below 200 but that was about all that was going for us.
The opposition played the match in good spirit but it was another team who were somewhat above our standards.
