Darley Abbey C.C. v Lichfield Nomads C.C.

An Eventful Day

Nomads faced old rivals Darley Abbey in our regular end of season clash. Owing to a rearranged u-15 match at their main venue, the match was scheduled for Markeaton Park. Despite an unpromising weather forecast, Nomads travelled over hoping to get some cricket played. Darley Abbey batted and it was clear that this was very much a pitch for the bowlers with Lee and Cogzell taking full advantage claiming 2 wickets each. Cartwright and Hoddy came on with Cartwright claiming 2 in 3 overs and Hoddy bowling 2 overs for 3 runs.. Tea was taken but with a steady drizzle set in, likely to be persistent, the home team called for a cessation in play. As the rain became heavier , the match was then abandoned.
Nomads were in the box seat but with conditions as they were a score of much over 100 would not have been an easy target.
Although short the match was eventful. Keith Stanley was applauded onto in the pitch in his last appearance for Nomads (although perhaps he may turn out the odd time if circumstances dictate?). A splendid catch was taken by Tom Scurlock, and last but not least Darren ‘Daz’ Cartwright reached 200 wickets for Nomads.
