Nomads lose to hosts
Old Hill ran out comfortable winners by 101 runs.
There was a maiden five wicket haul for Taran Singh. This was the fifth five wicket spell by a Nomads bowler this year.
Lee and Hughes opened the bowling for the Nomads with tight and accurate spells which soon had Old Hill 3 wickets down. Parsonage was first out caught, ironically, by his namesake (Parsonage) off the bowling of Lee and then Hughes claimed the next two - all for single figure scores. This bought F Tudor to the crease to join Y Mahmood. They then proceeded to bat patiently taking the score past 50, with Mahmoud in particular attacking the bad ball. Singh’s first over was wayward, prompting him to change from left arm round to left arm over the wicket. This brought about an immediate change in his fortunes, claiming the wicket of the promising F Tudor, who was well caught by O’Brien for 27. The next three batsmen batsmen fell to Singh’s bowling without scoring, including C Tudor, out to a brilliant diving catch from Parsonage. This capped a good all-round performance from the Nomads’ keeper. Munil (36) and Mahmood restored the run rate for Old Hill with Y Mahmood eventually retiring on 50. The final pair for Old Hill put on runs with big shots until Singh bowled Keeling to claim his 5th wicket. Old Hill reached a respectable total of 193 ( 42 of which were extras).
The Nomads faced a pacy and accurate Old Hill opening attack. The slow scoring rate was slightly behind that of Old Hill’s innings. But although batsmen made promising starts (O’Brien 14, Singh 8) wickets fell regularly and batsmen found it difficult to up the scoring rate. Old Hill were bowling well with Davenport claiming wickets with spin. Gibson came in a showed good shot selection with a sound defence and effective sweeps to the boundary. He and Parsonage gave the Nomads a glimmer of hope. They put on 18 until Parsonage was run out to a direct hit ( the second of the innings).
Nomads were eventually out for 91. They made a game of it , batting 34 overs, but were second best to Old Hill, who, with their mix of young and more experienced players deserved their win.
