Rain caused abandonment
For the first time since 2021, the Nomads arranged two matches on a Sunday. The forecast was not kind and the Darley Abbey match was called off early on Sunday morning.
The second match went ahead as scheduled and the Nomads travelled to Croxton Kerrial in the Vale of Belvoir (Aggers country) to play a Bingham C.C. Development team.
It was agreed to start as soon as we could and Fearon opened the batting with Shah, as the Singhs were still in transit.
The pair navigated some tricky bowling on a sticky dog pitch. The pair put on a half-century partnership, Fearon was caught off a leading edge for 23 with the score on 63 in the 13th over.
Bastable joined Shah and the pair started to up the scoring rate. Shah retired not out on 52 with the score on 114 for 1 and was replaced by Gibson. Bastable missed a straight one and was bowled for 20.
Chris Parsonage hit a 4 and a 6 and was caught for 10. Nick Bryars was trapped lbw for 4. Rylea Hughes was then bowled first ball.
Sartaj (Singh junior) made his debut for the Nomads and avoided the hat-trick and stuck around to help Gibson reach his maiden half-century for the club. He retired 53 not out in the 32nd over with the score on 196. Sartaj was eventually bowled for 2.
The remaining batsmen then punished the demoralised Bingham side with some late big hitting. Clenton scored 18, Hughes was 14 not out at the end and Singh reached 34 not out including three sixes.
The Nomads finished on 274 for 7 which looked a commanding score for the young Bingham team to chase down.
The young Bingham bowlers stuck to their task considering the intermittent drizzle and having to bowl with a wet ball. Edwardson and Christensen both claimed two wickets. Williams, Fryar and Shepherd bagged one each.
With the rain clouds looming a quick turnaround was agreed and Bingham went straight out to bat.
Hughes opened the bowling and was immediately hit for a 4 and a 6. He then bowled a short long hop that the batsmen mis-hit straight to Shah in the covers who took a not so simple catch in the conditions.
By now the rain was falling steadily and getting worse. The conditions were bordering on dangerous and it was agreed to stop play and re-assess in ten minutes.
By the time the players reached the pavillion the rain was really heavy and set for the rest of the day so it was agreed to call it off and adjourn to the bar.
A shame that the match couldn't be completed but both sides were grateful to get some cricket in despite the pessimistic forecast.
MVP - Gibson 7, Shah 3 and Sartaj Singh 1.
