Lichfield Nomads C.C. v Old Moseley Fitmen C.C.

He came, he saw , he conquered

Our first home game of the season at Kings Bromley saw the visit of Old Moseley Fitmen, always a stern test. The game seemed in doubt as a steady rain shower greeted us. However with covers on the pitch, there was only a short delay in starting when the rain passed over. Moseley batted first and capitalised on the odd bad ball to get off to a good start maintaining 5 per over off Davis and Hughes. Hutton could not stem the tide and indeed, Caesar, in particular, capitalised on him not bowling at his best to see him out of the attack. The first appearance of Harrison saw him bowl well without much reward. Cartwright and Hoddy slowed the run-rate somewhat, Hoddy claiming another 2 wickets for the season and Fearon was expensive when Moseley were going for a big total.
After an excellent tea provided by Terry and cakes by Mrs Cartwright. Nomads set about the task of achieving a formidable total of 220 to win.
The regular partnership of Gardner and Terry maintained a good rate against the opening bowlers with an opening partnership of 79 off 20 overs. However the run-rate required to win was now up to up to 7 per over. The remaining batsmen had to take risks. Fearon and Brannigan , as expected, got quick runs but eventually took too many chances and were out just as they were getting set. Hutton, Cartwright and Hughes went quickly. Rolfe and Harrison had a good partnership and Davis a brief knock which belied his self-deprecation as a batsman but it was all a bit 'too little, too late' and despite Rolfe trying to run Hoddy out, the two of them saw out the overs.
The big difference between the teams was Tom Caesar, who with his 104no, conquered all Nomads' bowlers.
