Nomads travelled to Fleckney having just made the bare 11. Captain for the day, Dave Rolfe, elected to bat and opened with the tried and trusted partnership of Gardner and Stanley. Keith Stanley, unusually, outscored Gardner in the opening overs and was unlucky to be run out by a direct hit with the fielder throwing at one stump. Ghosal came in hoping to improve on his previous scores which he did reaching 29. Gardner maintained his form just falling short of yet another 50. Moss and Brannigan started to up the pace but Brannigan was bowled and Moss fell to a good catch on the boundary. Lots of indecision saw Rolfe run out for his 3rd gonad of the season and a call by Hughes for a very sharp single saw Harrison run out. The innings finished with Cartwright and Hoddy batting out the overs.
Although smaller than we had anticipated, a total of 179 looked defendable. However our minds seemed to be on other things.
Drafted in from the 1st team, Chilton started to take advantage of some sloppy bowling to race along. His partner survived some chances but was eventually caught off Hoddy from one that popped up and took his gloves giving Rolfe an easy catch. Chilton survived when a difficult chance was not held. This was to prove very costly. Sejpal came in and was a more than adequate partner for Chilton who went on to make his first 100 of his career. He then retired on 101. Having little chance of winning, ,Rolfe brought on Brannigan and then Pickering who proceeded to capture 3 wickets in 4 overs aided by some good catches; one by Hughes on the boundary which took everyone by surprise. Play was held up for a short time to listen to the final of the Cricket World Cup where England beat New Zealand by the narrowest of margins.
This was not a good day for Nomads, the batting not taking advantage of some weakish bowling and the bowlers bowling too many bad balls.
