14/11/02 - Nomads Skipper sent Home in
Disgrace
Well known cricket captain John Hoddy (age 50) was sent back to his
hotel after an evening of drinking in a bar in Bruges. Mr Hoddy, who has
just completed a successful season with the prestigious Lichfield Nomads
CC, was seen to be staggering about and talking gibberish very loudly.
The leader of the party that Mr Hoddy was with said that Mr Hoddy had
been feeling tired and emotional and it was decided to send him back to
the hotel in his own best interests. The following day, an
ashen-faced John Hoddy (age 64) admitted that he had been drinking
heavily during the day. He said, " I had been feeling down due to
missing the prestigious Nomads dinner and had just heard that an
impostor had carried out a crude impersonation of me to make off with a
prestigious Nomads trophy. Apparently the police last saw him doing
145mph down the M42. I feel that I have let down the good name of the
prestigious Lichfield Nomads CC and I will be offering my resignation to
the prestigious chairman when I get back to England"
The news came as a shock to
the sports world and a bitter blow to the club after their best ever
season. A player, who wished to be un-named said " Why did they think
something was wrong. He talks gibberish all the time anyway"
