Bugbrooke 180 for 7 from 47 overs (Chapman 51, Newson 25, Reeve 21 not out, Hoddy 3-39, Heslington
2-44) Nomads 155 for 8 from 41 overs (Forster 36, Heslington 31, Gardner 28, Pinfield 24, Finch-Noyes 3-15, Gilthorpe 3-28, Silva 2-42) Another close match was fought out at Bugbrooke. All three results were possible near the end as the Nomads run chase just fell short and the batsmen shut up shop to deny Bugbrooke victory with only 2 wickets intact. Dave Forster, sporting his glasses for the first time this season, scored a rapid 38 to put the Nomads in sight of victory in a brisk partnership with Pinfield. When Pinfield was freakishly run out from a direct hit from the boundary the Nomads assault effectively fizzled out. Earlier, Nomads won the toss and elected to field. Some steady Nomads bowling, especially from Cartwright and Forster, saw Bugbrooke progress to 95 for 3 off 35 overs. The arrival of Chapman saw the scoring rate increase and Bugbrooke accelerated well at the end to rattle the Nomads who had been largely in control up until that point. With 78 runs coming off the last 11 overs. Fearon and Heslington opened the Nomads batting and they looked comfortable against some nagging bowling from Bugbrooke. The score had progressed to 24 when Fearon was out trying to glance a full toss only to chip the ball straight back to the bowler off the leading edge. Gardner came to the crease and looked good as they put on 52 for the second wicket before Gardner was out. After the excitement of Pinfield and Forster's partnership the innings fizzled out with Mike McGuinness and Pete Blackburn pulling muscles and it was left to the last 2 fit batsmen, Hoddy and Cartwright, to bat out the last few overs to secure the draw. |
