Nomad of the Year. (Voted by the members) |
Pete Gardner and Mal Pinfield both had successful
years with the bat. Keith Greaves and John Hoddy both bowled well and took their share of
wickets at improving averages. There were good all round performances from Ross Heslington
and Paul Fearon. The skipper Akin marshalled his resources well and there were good
contributions from Darren Cartwright, Phil Higginson and Chris Rowland despite injuries.
Ray Jennett was again a major contributor off the field with regular umpiring sessions and
scoring duties. Dave Forster was voted Nomad of the Year after an excellent all round performance. He bowled well this year, opening the bowling and taking 17 wickets at an average of 21.53. He also batted well scoring 187 runs at an average of 18.7. He took 6 catches and also had to cope with the treasurer duties. |
Performance of the Year. (Chosen by the committee) |
The first match of the season saw Pete Gardner score
95 and Keith Greaves claim a Nomads personal best 5-6 against Swynnerton, which turned out
to be the best batting and bowling performances of the year. Pete went on to score 6 more
half centuries and is now within sight of 10,000 career runs for the Nomads. Mal Pinfield
and Ross Heslington both scored 2 half-centuries. Again there were some excellent
partnerships this year with Pete Gardner and Rob Evans putting on 113 against Beaudesert
arguably the best. There were 2 other century partnerships. Pete Gardner and Ross
Heslington put on an opening stand of 124 against Bugbrooke and Pete Gardner and Mal
Pinfield put on 123 against Trentside. There were another 12 partnerships over 50, Gardner
featured in 9, Heslington featured in 6, Pinfield featured in 4, Fearon featured in 3 and
Fellows in 2. With restricted overs generally the norm this season, Keith's 5-6 was the only five wicket haul of the season. With Paul Fearon 4-12 against Friary and John Hoddy (a personal best 4-22 against Cannock Wood and 4-38 against Barton) the best of the rest. There were a further 11 three-wicket hauls. (3 for Heslington, 2 each for Forster and Greaves and one each for Fearon, Higginson, Hoddy and Rowland. 2000 Averages Details 2000 Records Details The highlight of the season was Nomads historic win against Friary in the Stewart Ellison Cup. This was made possible by an excellent bowling spell by Paul Fearon 4-12 and Phil Higginson 3-8 just when it looked like Friary were cruising to victory. Paul's contribution was voted as the Performance of the Year. |
Fielder of the Year. (Chosen by the committee) |
Some good fielding this year but inconsistent catching
was costly in more than one game. No one took 3 catches in a match but there were several
matches where 2 catches were taken. Greaves picked up 2 catches twice, first at home to
Norton and then away at Bugbrooke. Most recently Fellows took 2 good gully catches against
Norton on his comeback and Rowland took 2 in the same match, there was 2 for Hussein in
the match against Friary and finally 2 for Hoddy against Barton. Pete Gardner took 2
stumpings and a catch against Cannock Wood and 2 stumpings against Swynnerton Overall Keith Greaves took 8 catches, Dave Forster took 7 catches, Akin Hussein took 6 catches and Pete Gardner was awarded the fielder of the year award with 6 catches and 7 stumpings. |
Gonad of the year. |
Darren Cartwright won the Gonad of the Year. There was a dearth of gonads this year with 11 players picking up one duck and only Darren and Akin achieving two. Darren won, despite missing a good chunk of the season with injury, due to his lower run total. Full Details |
Fantasy Cricket. |
Pete Willis won again this year, for his third victory in 5 years. It was a close run thing with Ross always close in contention and with Pete only securing victory on the final day of the season. Special mention to Darren who finished third with his original team. Full Details |
