|
Lichfield Nomads 125 for 8 from 40 overs (Fearon 41, Hoddy 19 not out, T. Elson
2-25, S. Elson 2-31). Beaudesert 126 for 8 from 40 overs (C. Cowley 38, M. Hughes 38 not out, Higginson 3-24, Fearon 1-6) In yet another last ball finish, the Nomads lost by 2 wickets to Beaudesert. Some tight bowling by Beau and the loss of 2 early wickets, including the prize scalp of Gardner who went lbw to T. Elson, meant that Nomads had to regroup and 2 good stands between Fearon and Pinfield and then Fearon and Caygill began to rebuild the innings. Hoddy then added valuable runs at the end with the help of Hussein. The total of 125 always looked on the low side and so it proved. The innings was marred by some petulant dissent as the away side voiced their discontent at the umpire's decisions. Beau were looking comfortable at 41-0 off 11 overs when Paul Fearon clean bowled the dangerous Steve Gallier. Then Fearon in tandem with Phil Higginson, in a spell reminiscent of their match winning efforts against Friary in 2000, put the brakes on the Beau attack and Higginson picked up the wickets of Crouth and the 2 Elsons. Cartwright and Forster offered valuable support and with Hoddy injured, Greaves was handed the responsibility of bowling 8 overs. Hoddy juggled his bowlers and there were 2 excellent run outs by Darren Cartwright at fine leg to set up a tense last over. Beau needed 6 runs off six balls. 'Sos' Hughes showed a cool head in dotting out the first two and then hitting a 4, followed by a dot ball and a single to bring the scores level. Stickland then needed a single off the last ball, which he duly got and Beau won by 2 wickets, condemning the Nomads to yet another last ball defeat. |
