Lichfield Nomads Cricket Club : Match Reports 2005

On a cool breezy day,  Swynnerton won the toss and decided to put the Nomads into bat. After a cautious start against tight bowling Heslington got the innings going with a flurry of 4’s, before being caught at slip for 17.  Pinfield and Gardner made steady progress with a partnership of 57 before Pinfield was out lbw for 17. Osborn came in and set about the bowling and, after Gardner was out for 57, he (32) and Caygill (21) maintained the momentum with some attacking shots. The Nomads innings closed at 157, with Swynnerton using eight bowlers.

Swynnerton opened brightly, with the batsman punishing the bad ball and finding the gaps in the field with confident drives. When Osborn trapped Fox lbw  and Heslington bowled the dangerous Cheadle the Nomads thought they might have broken through but it was not to be. Townsend piled on the runs, straight driving good balls to the boundary and his 56 runs sealed the victory for Swynnerton. Nomads did their best , but two games in one weekend took its toll some of the players. Tributes to famous goalkeepers were identified in the field but all to no avail. Swynnerton were the better side.
