30/6/00 - Fantasy League. Willis takes over at the top with 2122, Heslington is second with 2109 and Cartwright third on 2076. Evans and Jennett are in touch with the leaders and the rest aren't. Full details. |
25/6/00 - 50 club draws The May and June 50 club draws took place at Holland Sports Club. The winners were: May 1st prize No.1 D. Forster (£15); 2nd prize No. 12 D. Cartwright (£10) June 1st prize No. 46 L. Ford (£15); 2nd prize No. 28 S. Pinfield (£10). Full details |
25/6/00 - Nomads look good on the
grass. With Barton's match cancelled, the George brothers guested for the Nomads and the match against Norton Selly Oak was played on the main square at Barton. Nomads won by 99 runs. The Nomads started well and the top three built a solid platform Gardner (51), Heslington (26) and Fearon (15). Pinfield (50 not out) then guided the Nomads to a useful 186 off 40 overs. Norton's top order all looked capable of scoring runs but all perished to rash shots as the required run rate slowly crept up. Fine bowling from Hoddy 3-0 and Forster 3-16 kept the pressure on Norton and despite the lager lout element in the boisterous crowd Nomads closed out the match with 11 overs to spare dismissing Norton for 87. This was Nomads 4th victory of the season, all played on grass, the 4 defeats all coming on artificial wickets. |
23/6/00 - Nomads Fantasy Cricket Week
8.Heslington maintains his lead but storming through into second is
Darren with the weeks' top score - the only 300+ score of the week. Commiserations to Martyn whose selection of Walsh
finally paid off with 104 pts but the rest of his team did bugger all! Week 8 Table.

18/6/00 - Nomads lose to Hawkins Nomads stuttered to 139 for 9 off 40 overs. Forster scored 38, Heslington 17, Pinfield 14 and Rowland 13 not out. Rhodes 3-18, Titley 3-21. 16/6/00 - Nomads Fantasy Cricket Week
7.A good week for the Beer Boys with MERP scoring a huge 396pts and
Chris 363. Heslington takes the lead by also scoring over 300. Gards might even find that
I've got his score right. Week 7 Table.
PGW |
14/6/00 - Cannock Unity v Nomads Nomads progressed to the Semi-Finals of the Mercury Cup as Cannock Unity conceded the game. Nomads will play away to the winners of the Armitage v Whittington tie. |

9/6/00 - Nomads Fantasy Cricket Week 6.Cartwight had a massive
week and moves from 5th to 3rd (He was 7th two weeks ago). Willis and Heslington
(4th last week) had good scores but despite a respectable score Evans slipped 2 places.
Hope the weather is good at Lords and that both teams perform better than in their last
matches. Does Steve "Suicidal" James know Hansie by any chance? Week 6 Table.
PGW |
4/6/00 - Cannock 3rds v Nomads The game was cancelled due to the wet conditions. |
2/6/00 - Nomads Fantasy Cricket Week 5.A splendid week for
Evans snr who has been catapulted into second place largely on the strenght of his bowling
attack. The Chairman's team are also performing strongly with second highest score of the
week while Derek Randall's Grin continues to broaden. Winner of this week's Diploma from
the CJAdams School of Social Skills are Barton Turners who foundered on the Aussie Devil
Number. This probably explains the flurry of transfers from Rowland while Willis has also
rung some changes to try to keep Sardines afloat.
Week 5 Table.

28/5/00 - Nomads take on the Eagles
indoors With storms raging outside, Lichfield Nomads played indoors against Mechelen Eagles and the game ended bizarrely in a tie, both teams scoring 108 off their 20 overs. The excesses of Ghent were easily matched by the nightlife of Brussels. So much so, that Cartwright went missing for 8 hours and only 8 'fit' Nomads travelled to Mechelen. Paul Fearon was voted man of the match by the hosts and was subsequently presented with 2 bottles of fine Belgian beer. The chairman handed over 4 bottles of White Shield as a gesture of thanks. A 6 over beer match was won by the Eagles. |
27/5/00 - Nomads meet their Waterloo Nomads lost by 4 wickets to Royal Brussels CC in the first match of their third tour of Belgium. The Nomads were remarkably sprightly despite the excesses of a night out in Ghent. The match took place at Ohain, south of Brussels, just a few kilometres from the historic site of the Battle of Waterloo. RBCC were made up of a mixture of ex-pats, mostly British, and were captained by Dave Foster from Whittingham! Nomads batted first, the usual organisational ineptitude meant that at the start of play only 8 players had arrived. The total of 175 in 40 overs was slightly below par on a good wicket (artificial) and fast outfield. Heslington top scored with 50, Fearon (34), Gardner (35) and Higginson (14*) all batted well in support.Royal Brussels were always up with the rate and won reasonably comfortably with 7 overs to spare despite losing 2 wickets with the scores tied. One of them a plumb lbw (second bounce) to Pinfield who made amends for his earlier duck, his first gonad for a number of years. |
26/5/00 - Fantasy Week 4. Some heavy scoring this week thanks in part to England's first Test win since 1903. Fearon weighed in with a huge 370 points 104 points ahead of anyone else - well done Giddins! Week 4 Table. |
21/5/00 - Nomads fall short. The Nomads lost by 3 runs to an understrength Birch Coppice. Coppice posted 150 from 39 overs and despite an opening stand of 90 between Gardner and Heslington the Nomads fell 3 runs short, all out for 147. |
19/5/00 - Fantasy Week 3. This week sees the sardines maintaining their lead obtaining the best score of the week. Close behind are April(May)Showers & U Beauty both with 236. Crofty's finger has slipped out a bit..... Gards magnificent XI gets the Mandelson Award for Achievement. Week 3 Table. |
17/5/00 - Nomads up for the cup. The Nomads have drawn Cannock Unison in the Lichfield Mercury Cup. The Quarter finals to be played by June 26th. Full draw: Semi finals to be played by July
24 Finals to be played at Lichfield CC on Monday July 31st and Tuesday August 1st. (Whatever that means!) |
14/5/00 - 50 club draws. The following draws took place at Holland Sports Club. February: 1st-No.39 P. Gardner, 2nd-No.14 Emma Fearon. March: 1st-No.40 A. Hussein, 2nd-No.37 Club Number. April: 1st-No.12 D. Cartwright, 2nd-No.28 S. Pinfield. Easter Draw: No.29 M. Pinfield. |
14/5/00 - Nomads lose first home game. The Nomads lost to Trentside by 6 wickets with 4 balls remaining. Nomads won the toss and once agin batted first. After a slow start, Nomads reached 170 for 4 off their 40 overs. An excellent stand of 123 between Gardner (77) and Pinfield (38) was the mainstay of the innings. In a close finish, Trentside got home with 4 balls to spare mainly thanks to Frank who scored 103 not out. |
12/5/00 - Willis heads fantasy list. The Sardines are top after week 2. Week 2 Table. |
6/5/00 - Nomads win the Stewart Ellison
Trophy The Nomads won a dramatic contest against Lichfield Friary to win the cup by 30 runs. Skipper Hussein won the toss and batted first but runs were hard to come by and the Nomads reached 100 for 9 off 45 overs(Gardner 35, Pinfield 18). After looking odds on to reach the target comfortably, Friary were bowled out for 70 in the 35th over. (Fearon 4-12, Higginson 3-8). |
5/5/00 - Fantasy Cricket begins. Darren is the leader after week 1. With his team Bescot Balti Pies notching up an impressive 199 points. Full details. |
30/4/00 - Nomads foiled by April
showers Nomads game away at Olton (West Warwickshire C.C.) on Sunday 30th April was cancelled late on Sunday morning. Although the weather was fine and the wicket was playable, the outfield was still under heavy water. |
28/4/00 - Nomads gap filled by Olton Nomads will play away at Olton (West Warwickshire C.C.) on Sunday 30th April. Nomads have played Olton twice before and lost both times. After 2 straight wins already this season, the Nomads are confident of securing their first victory at Olton. The previous visit in in June 98 saw an understrength Nomads produce a poor batting performance, which left Olton with a target of 92 which they reached comfortably. It was also remembered for
|

two. The Nomads won their second fixture against Cannock Wood by 10 runs. Nomads lost the toss and were put in to bat first, scoring 136 for 6 off the allotted 40 overs.
