Nomads day at the Test match 2012
Hello all. We have chosen to go to the Headingley game vs South Africa
on Sat 4th August 2012 for our International match. It is also the Nomads 30th
anniversary year. Once we know numbers, we can then decide about transport &
accommodation for those that wish to make a weekend of it, probably staying in
Leeds. Those that prefer to just travel up for the day can do so. We have the
choice of either sitting in the Western Stand (which does tend to be fairly
lively) for £40 each or elsewhere in the ground for £55 each. I would like to
know who wants a ticket and if they have a preference to where they sit. I need
to know this by the 17th November, please, at our AGM at The Malt, Lichfield
along with a £20 deposit to secure your ticket. Cheers Ian.

Nomads AGM 2011
Here are the 2011 AGM details.
The venue for this years meeting, The Malt Bar and Restaurant, 55 Wade Street,
Lichfield, WS13 6HL, is organised again by Ian Hughes and is situated opposite
the Garrick Theatre in Lichfield.
Refreshments will be available on the evening.
The minutes of the 2010 AGM are attached to this document and it is important
that you print a copy of them and bring it along to the meeting as no copies
will be provided on the night. The agenda is there to give the meeting a
structured order.
The 2010 AGM minutes will be reviewed
at the start of the meeting.
If you wish to nominate a captain for next season, please use the form provided
and make sure that the person you are nominating wishes to do the task.
Any application for a position within the club requires the person to cross the
box against the post in question. If unopposed, the person will be proposed and
seconded. If more there is more than one interested party for any position, a
democratic vote will take place.
Our AGM is a wonderful opportunity to remind us of and review the previous
twelve months so please make the effort and attend.
MA Heslington
Secretary.

Nomads Captain's Curry
Gents, After speaking to numerous Nomads I have decided to organise the
captain's curry for the 30th September. This will be held in Lichfield instead
of sunny Wednesbury. Sorry to disappoint I would like an idea of numbers if poss
so I can book a table at the lal bagh. I was going to suggest a meet in the
Queens at 9pm and then devouring the hot stuff at 10 if this is ok with you
all.(if not tuff ha ha) I shall be in the area from in-between 4 - 5 pm to allow
ample time to drink as much alcohol as possible and as vice skip suggested there
is also a beer festival on for those that fancy it. Hope this is ok with
everyone Please forward to those I have missed Excuse the spelling and grammar.

Mick Hampton 1954-2011
Mick died in April just a few days after his fifty-seventh
birthday.
He had been an outstanding schoolboy sportsman, excelling at cricket and as a
goalkeeper and represented Staffordshire at both.
Nomads first encountered him in opposition, playing for John Taylor’s Staff XI
and he was later persuaded to play for the club.
He was not a typical Nomad. He drank little, smoked not at all and the strongest
word he would use was “blinking”.
As a batsman he was uncomplicated, the front pad (always seeming to be larger
than the sightscreen) and bat thrust forward to block a couple of balls. The
third ball, indistinguishable from the previous ones, would disappear over the
boundary for a trademark six.
As a bowler he trotted in off about four paces to deliver his thunderbolts.
A batsmen who cried,” Bloody hell, I thought he was a spinner!” was not unique.
Mick gave no quarter. The chin would extend forward, then “That’s how they used
to bowl at me when I was his age.”
There could be no argument.
He was an accomplished Tourist, excelling at catching pool balls threatening his
Shepherd’s pie and most useful for his uncanny ability to get an ETA almost
exactly right.
On one occasion a long drive to Cumbria saw Mick out by a few minutes, which
brought howls of derision from the tour busload .His protestations that it was
due to unknown road works cut no ice.
Despite having been born in Baggie-land Mick was Wolves most loyal supporter.
There is no doubt that he believed Wolves would be playing Premiership football
in 2012.
I believe Mick and I still hold a JTHS Staff XI record: heaviest ever
partnership.

2011 Fixtures
The latest version of the 2011 fixtures is
available. As you can see, there is one weekend without a game scheduled. This
is the weekend when many are going to Cardiff to watch cricket/sink a few
beers/chat up Welsh women/eat late night curries. However not everyone is going,
and some are prepared to come back to play on the Sunday (May 29th). Before
trying to fix a game, I need to know whether we will be able to raise a team.
Can you let me know your availability.
Are you:
1 Likely to be free to play
2 Unlikely to be back, or in a fit state to play
3 Have no idea this far out/will need to seek permission.

Friary Grange Cancellation - Indoor Nets
Hi Folks, I have received a letter this evening from the Friary Grange Leisure
Centre regarding the hiring of the cricket net facility. The District Council
has informed them that impending works to the Sports Hall roof will commence in
January and will last for about 8 - 10 weeks. As a consequence, the FGLC has
taken a review and come to the conclusion that the sessions when we would have
been hiring, will not be available and they do not envisage being able to
provide any cricket net provision in 2011. I have informed Malcolm and when/if
an alternative is found, all will be notified. See you Saturday.

Nomads 50 Club announcement
Can I please ask you for your support for the
Lichfield Nomads 50 Club Monthly Prize
Draw.
As you know, the funds generated by the 50 Club play an integral part in
ensuring the financial survival of the club, so it is important that we sell as
many numbers as we can over the next few weeks and your support would once again
be appreciated.
The 50 Club is about to start another 12 month run of prize draws and I hope
that you will join in the 'fun' and part with some of your hard earned cash. As
in previous years, there will be 14 prize draws, commencing from October 2010.
Each month there are 2 prizes, the first prize is £15 and the second prize is
£10. There are also extra draws at Christmas (£50) and Easter (£25), making 14
draws in all. The cost is only £1
for each draw or £12 for the year in advance, payment needs to be received by
December 31st 2010 to qualify for the £2 discount.
For the list of this year's winners click here.
As usual, you can keep up to date with the draw
results on the Nomads web site.
Please make any cheques payable to Lichfield Nomads C.C. I am happy to accept
cash/cheques at the AGM on Thursday 14th October, at the Annual
Dinner on Friday 12th November at The George Hotel,
Lichfield or by post at the above address.
Also, if you do not want to take part, please let me know so that we can free up
the spare number for someone else.
Many Thanks.

Kev Collins and Lee Westwood finished joint top wicket takers with 22 each.
The first time there has ever been a tie. Pete

Captain's Curry Announcement 29th Oct 2010
You may be aware, in recent weeks, of the discussions that have taken place
regarding the fall off of the “Captain’s Curry”. This was borne out of the fact
that only two members attended last year and none of them was the Captain. The
attendees were the Treasurer and the Secretary. This notification may be a bit
formal, but it is the Club’s intention to try and regenerate interest in this
social function.
This year, the “Captain’s Curry” will be held at
the “Lal Bag” Indian restaurant in Bird Street, Lichfield on Friday 29th
October 2010, start time 7.00pm. We are aware that some would prefer a
later curry.
Can members wishing to attend please let our Captain Ian
Hughes know by replying to him by the AGM at the latest. This is because large
numbers cannot just walk in; he needs to book a table(s) in advance. Your fullest co operation in this matter would be most
appreciated.
MA Heslington, Secretary.

Nomads lose at Blythe
A stronger than normal Blythe Bridge side easily defeated a lacklustre Nomads
team by more than 100 runs. Nomads spent a
miserable first hour in cold, windy, drizzle watching the ball disappear to all
parts of the ground, as numerous chances were put down and the Blythe openers
took advantage of some poor bowling. When the two openers retired, the match
became more even and wickets began to fall. Chris Collins took 4 catches and
Blythe were restricted to 273, which would have been 300 plus but for the slow
outfield. An exceptional tea was served up once again. Including home made
Chilli, Lasagne and Sausages in Onion gravy. Nomads openers struggled against the pace of the Blyth
opener and both Fearon
and Heslington were bowled by good fast yorkers. The change
bowlers were less daunting and Collins (C), Brannigan, Pinfield and Caygill all
got going but no-one produced a substantial innings to make inroads into the
Blyth total and Nomads tamely batted out the 40 overs to lose by 118 runs.

match report.
